Q: Good stops to make on a car trip from Chicago to New York?
I am flying to Chicago and driving back . What are some things that I can do while I am there and are there any stops in other states that I should make on my trip back? I want to try to see something in every state I go through.
A: While there are lots of things to see on the way, I will give you one piece of advice that I really hope you take advantage of.
Stop at the crash site of flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Your life will not be the same.
Q: Does anyone know what the tax, title and license fees are for a new car purchase within the city of Chicago?
Either the actual dollar amount or what percentage is charged for taxes, title and license. Thanks!
A: Do you really want the correct answer? Call the DMV in Chicago explain what you have and they’ll quote you the exact amount due.
Q: How long does it take from Chicago to New york, New York by car?
A: 12 hours, 38 minutes

Q: How many hours does it take to go to Chicago from New York? Plane? Car?
A: Catch a direct non-stop flight between ORD and LGA (LaGuardia) or ORD and expect aprox 2-2.5 hour depending on airline carrier.
Get a car, and expect around 12-14 hours depending on your speed and driving conditions. If you average around 75 mph, expect around 13 hour travel time with short breaks in between.
My advise, catch a plane unless there’s three + passengers. In a winter time, airfare is super cheap (around $75 each way plus tax).
Good luck
Q: If I have insurance in Chicago, can I drive the car in New York?
I’m planning 2 stay in New York, so can I still use my chicago insurance?
Thanks
I am staying der but I’ve seen sum people with Texas plate 4 more den a year living in NY…
A: the only thing you have to change in NY is your license…within 10 days of moving to NY….you can keep your out of state plates and insurance as there is no law against that…
everyone here gets michigan, connecticut, texas or north carolina plates and insurance as new york is outrageously high…for insurance and registration fees…and they keep getting higher!
Q: How many gallon of gas are needed to go to Chicago from New York City?By a new 2000 Kg car?
A: Not enough information.
Site below will allow you to look up the rated mpg of your 2000 kilogram car.
By the way, never heard of anyone saying, “Guess what? I just bought a brand new 2000 Kg car!!”
Get my drift??
Q: I have a free Car ride to Chicago this weekend? Do I go with my cousins or stay in New Jersey this holiday?
I thought about it and I think I’m going to go because I’m still young (22) and i want to experience another part of the country. However, i don’t feel like driving 14 hours to get there. If you have any tidbits on how Chicago is and if you would travel from New Jersey to Chicago on New Year’s weekend. Lemme know if Chicago is worth the trip. Thanks
A: I grew up in New Jersey and live in Chicago. Chicago has a lot to offer that is different than New Jersey. Navy Pier, Millenium Park, John Hancock Tower, Great Clubs: House of Blues and Kingston Mines. Fun stuff to do on Michigan Avenue and in Lincoln Park. The Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium are all easy to get to. Public Transportation is faily reliable. You can get a 2 day pass from any Jewelor Dominick’s Grocery Store or at a local Currency Exchange.
What to avoid….Chicago style food…Deep Dish Pizza, Chicago Hot Dogs, Italian Beef Sandwiches…New Jersy Rules in this category. What I would not give for a thin pizza or a good sub or a taylor ham on a butter kaiser roll..Have a great trip
Q: I live in Chicago, and looking for a new car. Audi S5 or Lexus ISF!? Which one looks nicer and is bett?
Audi S5 AWD $62,000
Lexus ISF RWD $48000 (W/ all incentives)
(Would need to by $3,200 rims and tires for winter on ISF)
A: Neither is my favorite, but if i had to choose, Audi S5 awd
Q: are the taxes cheaper to buy or lease a car in chicago or new jersey?
A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: will i get the parking boot on my new car if i no longer have the old car in chicago?
A: It takes a while to transfer the citations from the old vehicle a new one but the process may be sped when the new owner of the old vehicle transfers it into their name. At least that is how it is in California. Once you have five or more citations (at least in Los Angeles) the vehicle may be booted. Pay the citations and avoid a later hassle. If it does get booted and you do not do anything in short order, it will be impounded (much more expensive) and then may be sold at auction in 30-41 days to recover the cost of the tow and storage.
Cities, counties, and states are in need of revenue. They will not bat an eye to get your money when you are in the wrong.
Most states will also hold up renewing the vehicle registration if there are outstanding overdue parking/toll violations.
Q: who is offering the best new car deals in chicago land right now? and the cost of the car is still low?
like under 15,000?
A: Your not buying a price tag, your buying a car. Buy what you like that is within your budget.
Q: I’m 19 and want to rent a car from Chicago to New Orleans. Best idea?
problem is, no place will allow you to drive a rental if you’re under 24. Can anyone help me figure out some way around this or a place that will allow me to drive?
And no, just having a parent sign for it won’t help. they won’t let anyone under 24 drive, period. anyone know of somewhere that doesn’t have this policy?
another idea is some kind of personal renter, where someone in Chicago just sold a car to someone in N.O. (or something along those lines) and needs to get it down there somehow. My mom says that’s what she did when she needed a one way ride somewhere, but i don’t know where to look for that sort of thing and she doesn’t either.
A: Sorry, but no business will rent a car to a 19 y/o.
A great alternative to flying is taking the train from Chicago to New Orleans: www.amtrak.com
Note that you do not need a car to get around in downtown New Orleans. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. The New Orleans regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the day(s) you select. There are also lots of taxicabs.
Good luck!
Q: A good Restarurant, Night Club, Pub, to pass the New Year, and a Rental Car in Chicago??!?
I’m going to visit Chicago next week, Is there any good night club, restaurant to pass the New year with my sister and I (24 and 27 years old), and I want to rent a Car, anybody knows a very cheap one?? and of course….a very cheap and central Hotel or Hostels…..Thanks
A: First of all don’t rent a car. Added to what you’re going to pay to rent the car, you’ll pay around $35 to park the car overnight. Take a plane or train here, then use the CTA (L trains, buses) or cabs, it will be much cheaper and more convenient – and more safe on NYE. I also believe that the CTA only charges a penny on NYE to make sure there are no drunk drivers. Otherwise it’s only $2 one way.
There are tons of places depending on your taste in music, and things like that. Check out Chicago’s section at Metromix.com, they have an awesome New Years section.
Also, just know that hotel rates go up and down based on how busy it is in the city. It’s not bery busy during the winter, so rates are normally low except for NYE and Valentines Day – so expect to pay a lot unless you’re staying near an airport.
Q: Are there any cheap limo or car services from New Lenox, IL to Chicago, IL?
I want to take a limo or car to a concert at UIC Pavillion in Chicago, IL. I don’t want the hastle of driving or taking a train. Any services you can suggest?
A: You may want to call a school bus company. Years ago, when I lived in Illinois and had to commute to Chicago, a bunch of neighborhood people paid a monthly fee and saved 70% transportation costs by charting a bus and driving daily to Chicago.
